Welcome to the Longmont Airport Community website. Our site was established to help promote and protect our much loved local airport.
Longmont has always been a city that has invested in aviation and aerospace. The City of Longmont was established in 1871. By 1913, its residents were engaged in flying and flight instruction. Longmont’s Airport was dedicated in 1945 as the second general aviation airport constructed in the state of Colorado. It was renamed to Vance Brand Municipal Airport in 1988 after our hometown astronaut, Vance Devoe Brand.

Preserving the legacy and future of Vance Brand Airport together
On October 28th, 1945, The Longmont Airport was dedicated by Capt. Noland R, Fry, a recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross.
"By authority vested in me by the Longmont City Council, I now christen the Longmont Municipal Airport, and dedicate it to the user of our people, to the people of our state and nation, and to the splendid young generation now returning victorious from the battlefields of the world, with eyes upon the far horizons, and the spirit to spurn the present limitations of time and space."

This website has been created to educate the community about the Vance Brand Airport and to help rally support for this wonderful community asset.
Our airport is under attack by a very small number of individuals, in a serious and systematic way. They have convinced the Longmont City Council that the Vance Brand Airport is not an asset to the community.
If you enjoy any aspect of as a user or a spectator, we need you to register your support.
Second Oldest Airport in Colorado
Denver Municipal Airport opened in 1929 and Longmont was the second city in the state to officially dedicate an airport.
Economic and Community Impact
Of the $73.6 million of total business revenues generated by LMO, $44.7 million was generated by on-airport activities and $28.9 million generated by visitor spending.

Unfortunately, our airport has been under attack by a tiny minority of individuals who do not appreciate its importance or how the airport operates. They have worked relentlessly to convince the Longmont City Council that the Vance Brand Airport is a problem and not an asset to the community.

Humankind has always been fascinated with flight!
Young children to the oldest adults look up and are captivated by what is in the air and escaping gravity. Small airports like ours, although they are critical to the National Transportation System, are facing closure at an alarming pace. Advocates for closure cite noise, safety, pollution, and annoyance as viable reasons to close an airport.
Vance Brand is the launch and landing zone for a wide variety of pilots, pursuits, aircraft, and endeavors! If you expand your mind and vision at Vance Brand airport through flight, business, services, aviation avocations, skydiving, or plane spotting, we are so glad you are here and enjoying this show!
Please help us share and communicate the value and vision aviation brings to our community. Whether piloting or spectating -- this airport is a gem and an asset!
